In 2018 we’re celebrating Wales’ outstanding coastline, and inviting visitors to discover new epic experiences all around our shores, with special events and attractions throughout the year.
This is our Year of the Sea. The 870-mile Wales Coast Path runs the whole length of the Welsh coastline and Carmarthenshire has fantastic scenery, history and wildlife dotted along its stretch of the path. You’ll find Wales’ first Blue Flag Beach at Cefn Sidan, also known as Pembrey. It’s hard to miss it, as it’s also Wales’ longest beach reaching a great eight miles!
As you travel west from Pembrey, following Carmarthen Bay and the River Towy Estuary, you’ll find castles perched along the coastline. Explore the history of Llansteffan Castle and take in sweeping views of the Towy Estuary or find out how close the high tide can get to Laugharne Castle.
For those looking for a more energetic way to experience the coastline, we have dozens of activities for you to try: horse riding on the beach with Marros Riding Centre or Hill’s Farm Stables, sea kayaking with Morfa Bay Adventure, body boarding with Hawk Adventures or wake boarding with GoWake. Take in the view as you cycle along the Millenium Coastal Path, there are plenty of pit stops along the way including a few cafes and traditional fish and chips at Burry Port harbour.
Away from the coastline and at the very North edge of the county you’ll find the vast Llyn Brianne Reservoir with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. For those looking to make a catch, there are several fishing spots along both the Tywi River and Teifi Rivers.
Wherever you are in Carmarthenshire, you’re never more than just over an hour from the sea. So wherever you stay - rural cottage or boutique hotel – there’ll be an epic shore nearby. With a language and culture that’s the oldest in Britain, a warm Welsh welcome and food and drink made with skill by passionate people… this is the greatest coastal experience of 2018.
