Carmarthenshire is believed by many to be the home of the best food and drink producers in Wales, and beyond. And it's no surprise then, that we're also home to many great places to eat - from fine dining restaurants to informal delis - and everything in between. Here's a little bit about some of the award-winning ones featured on our website...
We have to start with the Gold Award winner of the Taste of Carmarthenshire category in the 2018 Carmarthenshire Tourism Awards - The Plough Rhosmaen, which wowed judges with its use of quality, local ingredients in its wonderful dishes - as well as with the way it showcases this area of Wales so well in its modern, relaxing surroundings.
Just up the road in the picturesque market town of Llandeilo, you'll find The Cawdor and Ginhaus Deli. The Cawdor is a historic coaching inn, refurbished to include the perfect mix of the traditional and modern. Food is served in the dining room, bar, Cegin cafe and outside in the courtyard all depending on your choice of ambience and the weather! And for somewhere a little different, the Ginhaus Deli is a delicatessen, coffee shop, cafe and gin bar all in one! As well as being to enjoy during the day, Ginhaus opens late on Fridays and Saturdays, extending the relaxed atmosphere into the evenings with pizza made in-house and topped with goodies from the deli.
A few miles up the Tywi Valley from Llandeilo, in the village of Llanarthne, you'll find Wright's Food Emporium. Very much an informal deli/cafe, with a welcoming approach and relaxing atmosphere, its reputation attracts people to enjoy its food from far and wide.
The bustling town of Carmarthen is home to The Warren - A cafe, restaurant & bar serving simple, honest & wholesome food with drinks to match. Also well deserved Gold winners of the Most Exciting New Business category and Silver winners in the Taste of Carmarthenshire category in the 2018 Carmarthenshire Tourism Awards.
If there was an award for the restaurant with the best view, then the Moryd Restaurant at Mansion House Llansteffan would surely be the winner. With spectacular views across Carmarthen Bay it also has food to match - the restaurant has been awarded two coveted AA Rosettes for its contemporary food which also has a strong local provenance (see main image).
Last, but certainly not least, is Sosban - one of the most innovative restaurants in Wales and housed in a listed Victorian Pump House in Llanelli. Here you'll find dishes with modern takes on British classics using locally sourced ingredients - combined with bold flavours and cooked with flair and creativity.
It really is impossible to choose a favourite from this wonderful collection of places to eat in Carmarthenshire. Perhaps we should work around them all one more time, just to help us to decide!
